The ICube laboratory celebrates 10 years

On June 28, the ICube Strasbourg laboratory of Télécom Physique Strasbourg, which is supported by the Télécom & Société Numérique Carnot Institute, celebrated its tenth anniversary. TSN Carnot Institute was present at this milestone event. The celebration provided an opportunity to look back at the creation, development and significant successes of the laboratory dedicated to research that benefits society. Researchers and external partners shared their impressions of these first 10 years. The event also featured stories from alumni who are now based all over the world, at both universities and companies.

The Engineering Science, Computer Science and Imaging Laboratory (ICube – CNRS/Unistra/INSA Strasbourg/Engees/INRIA Grand Est) is celebrating its tenth anniversary.

Founded in 2013, ICube is a joint research unit of the CNRS, the University of Strasbourg, INSA Strasbourg, ENGEES and INRIA. It is primarily affiliated with two CNRS institutes. The lab focuses on two disciplines: engineering, with an emphasis on physical devices, and computer science related to software and algorithms, with imaging (fast cameras, image processing, modeling, etc.) as a unifying theme.

After starting out with 350 permanent and non-permanent members, the laboratory now has over 700 members. As a partner of the Faculty of Medicine and the Strasbourg University Hospital Institute, ICube also brings together research professors from four engineering schools in Strasbourg: Télécom Physique Strasbourg, Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Strasbourg (INSA Strasbourg), École Nationale du Génie de l’Eau et de l’Environnement de Strasbourg (Engees) and Icam Strasbourg-Europe.

In terms of research, ICube focuses on six cross-disciplinary themes: industry of the future and smart factories; instrumentation, sensors and analysis; medical and surgical imaging and robotics; scientific computing; environment and sustainable development and, finally, artificial intelligence.

ICube laboratory, which is a member of Télécom & Société Numérique Carnot Institute, thus brings together equally two scientific communities at the interface between the digital and physical worlds, which has resulted in its unique structure.
