Sixth plenary session of Hub France Gaia-X: an interoperable, sovereign European cloud network

March 13, 2024 - Big Data & AI - Cybersecurity - Networks & IoT

At its sixth plenary session, the Gaia-X Hub France announced a crucial stage in Gaia-X's development: a phase of consolidation of its ecosystem. At the heart of this development is Institut Mines-Télécom, which is taking the reins of the Hub France in close collaboration with Cigref. Together, they are committed to implementing the major strategic growth axes for this Europe-wide initiative. Institut Mines-Télécom is also launching the Data Space Lab, an initiative designed to structure the various data ecosystems. The lab will offer a secure space for experimentation to companies of all sizes, thanks to its Teralab data and AI platform, which has been awarded the Carnot Télécom & Société numérique institute label.

About Gaia-X Hub France

Since its inauguration in 2020, the Gaia-X Hub France has set itself the goal of bringing together and building up a community of French users, companies, administrations and organizations. Its aim is to raise awareness and mobilize them around the economic opportunities as well as the technical and legal advantages offered by the Gaia-X ecosystem. The hub promotes the development and adoption of Gaia-X in France by bringing together players from the worlds of science, business, politics and society. They are encouraged to share experiences, acquire knowledge and put it into practice together. It works to structure the ecosystem by organizing meetings and exchanges between the various Working Groups. In addition, it supports the creation of data spaces that foster the emergence of new Gaia-X-compliant offerings, and stimulates co-innovation in services and use cases. The Hub France also ensures coordination with Gaia-X bodies and other national hubs, while supporting the participation of French industry in the deployment of the European and French data strategy.

Launch of the user-oriented Data Space Lab

As part of this dynamic, the launch of the Data Space Lab by Institut Mines-Télécom, with its data and AI platform, TeraLab, represents a significant step forward and an unprecedented initiative to structure the various ecosystems, characterized by varying levels of technological maturity from one player to another. The lab will provide a secure, impartial environment for experimenting with various data management projects, fostering innovation and collaboration in line with Gaia-X standards. Whatever the business model or regulatory context, users will be able to test different configurations of Gaia-X-compliant architectures and managed services. In addition to its sandbox role, the Data Space Lab will also offer training sessions.

Strengthening Europe's digital sovereignty

Not surprisingly, Gaia-X's guiding principles mirror those of the RGPD. Indeed, Gaia-X is part of a profound trend in the European Union in favor of data sovereignty. This initiative is therefore an essential part of a long-term EU strategy aimed at creating a sovereign industrial and personal data space, protected by technical and legal mechanisms that are themselves sovereign.
