With a record attendance of 71,528 people from 153 countries, the summit brought together industry leaders, promising startups, influential investors and technology experts around the central theme: "Where do we go next?".

Artificial intelligence and sustainability in the spotlight

Artificial intelligence dominated the discussions, with a 16% increase in the number of start-ups specializing in this field compared to the previous year. Technology giants such as IBM, Adobe and Microsoft shared their visions, while debates on sustainability highlighted the efforts of companies aligned with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. Particular attention was paid to key sectors such as agritech and renewable energies.

Highlights: prestigious speakers and PITCH competition

Renowned speakers included Sir Tim Berners-Lee, creator of the World Wide Web, and Brad Smith, Chairman of Microsoft. Renowned artist and entrepreneur Pharrell Williams discussed the links between business and creativity. Porto-based educational startup Intuitivo won the prestigious PITCH competition with its automated assessment platform, consolidating its role in the field of educational technology.

Focus on the Carnot institutes TSN and SHIFT89

On its stand, the Carnot TSN institute was represented by two expert researchers in digital technologies and co-founders of SHIFT89, Emmanuel Pit Bricard and Traian Lavric, as well as François Pineau, director of Carnot TSN, and Laurent Ebner, in charge of major partnerships. An immersive demonstration enabled visitors to try out the augmented reality headsets developed by SHIFT89, an innovative technology that enables experts to create augmented reality tutorials quickly and autonomously. This initiative illustrates the importance of research partnerships in developing concrete solutions for industry.

An event with global impact

Over four days, the Web Summit provided an opportunity to identify future digital trends and engage in dialogue with influential decision-makers. The event also offered unique opportunities for technology companies. The 2024 edition demonstrated a notable international commitment, with 62 business delegations from 36 countries, including a strong presence from Brazil, Germany and Ukraine. More than 1,066 investors, managing a total of $14.7 trillion in assets, participated, underlining the Web Summit's key role in the global entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The Lisbon Web Summit has once again confirmed its status as a catalyst for innovation and international collaboration, while laying solid foundations for its next editions in Rio de Janeiro and Vancouver, scheduled for 2025.

The POM project brought together researchers from Télécom Paris, part of the Carnot TSN institute, and Nokia Bell Labs to model and evaluate telecoms systems. This collaboration was based on the use of the TTOOL platform, accredited by the Carnot TSN institute.
