December 1, 2022 - Big Data & AI - Industry of the future - Media of the future - Intelligent mobility - Networks & IoT - Smart City

On November 30, the "Beyond the cell phone" event was held at the Verso center in Paris, supported by Carnot Télécom & Société numérique.

The event of the year brought together numerous 5G and Intelligent Edge players on November 30 at the Verso conference center in Paris.

Among the many speakers showcasing the latest innovations in 5G were representatives from industry and government, as well as academic experts, who shared the latest information on how the Intelligent Edge will enable applications that go far beyond the smartphone.

Thomas Courbe, director of the Direction Générale des Entreprises, and Axel Baratte, telecoms project manager at the French Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Recovery, highlighted the importance of 5G, following an introduction to the subject by Odile Gauthier, Managing Director of Institut Mines-Télécom, as well as David Gesbert, Director of the EURECOM school, part of the Carnot TSN institute, Didier Patry, Managing Director of France Brevets, and Wassim Chourbaji, Director of Regulatory Affairs and Frequencies at Qualcomm Europe.

5G paves the way for wireless connectivity on the shop floor, including industrial facilities. All kinds of field devices initially isolated in manufacturing cells will become valuable data providers, or even benefit from a full deployment of industrial edge functionalities. Building on its leadership in the fields of manufacturing automation and industrial communications, Siemens now offers solutions for the next-generation factory. Vincent Masztalerz, Digital Industries - Process Automation - Siemens, spoke on this subject at the conference.

To talk about the convergence of 5G and Intelligent Edge, enabling ultra-low latency for industries and enterprises to process and analyze massive amounts of data, Knud Lasse Lueth - CEO of IOT Analytics, outlined the opportunities and economic benefits these innovations will bring, as well as capabilities that go far beyond the smartphone.

Professor Raymond Knopp of EURECOM gave another informative talk on 5G research efforts and results, presenting the results of a collaborative approach to cutting-edge 5G research and explaining how this work is contributing to the mobile ecosystem.

In addition to panel discussions and expert presentations, several demonstrations showcased typical examples of 5G and Intelligent Edge, including a connected drone demonstration by Henri Seydoux, Chairman and CEO of Parrot, and a mixed reality headset demonstration by Lynx Mixed Reality. The demonstration immersed viewers in an immersive experience of transition from virtual to augmented reality, with innovative features including hand tracking and 6DoF tracking, in a self-contained, compact format. An object enabling users to interact with virtual objects in real time, and see how mixed reality will blur the boundaries between virtual and real.

This event, in partnership with EURECOM, France Brevets, IMT and Qualcomm, and supported by the Carnot Télécom & Société numérique, was the perfect opportunity to meet and exchange ideas. This is an opportunity to understand how 5G and the Connected Intelligent Edge are transforming industries and businesses in today's and tomorrow's world.
