October 2, 2024 - Big Data & AI - Industry of the future - Media of the future - Networks & IoT - Smart City

On September 24, 2024, the Carnot institute Télécom & Société numérique organized an exciting day dedicated to R&D managers and executives. Hosted in the sumptuous setting of the Horizon de Khéops in Paris, participants explored advances in iA, blockchain and quantum technologies through lectures given by experts. After an oriental snack to encourage exchanges, the event concluded with a virtual reality immersion in the heart of the Khéops pyramid, offering an educational journey into the past. An event at the crossroads of time and technology!
The future: a conference event presenting current and future advances in the fields of AI, blockchain and quantum computing.
Organized by the Carnot Télécom & Société numérique institute and run by the Institut Mines-Télécom, the half-day event brought together around a hundred participants, business leaders and personalities from the world of research and digital technologies, in a futuristic setting worthy of a science fiction film. During a conference entitled "Innovative industry: towards a future with iA, blockchain and quantum?", the audience was able to discover advanced technological perspectives, identify opportunities and anticipate trends through the contributions of experts and three round tables. Following an opening address by TSN Carnot Institute Director François Pineau, journalist and host Stéphane Jobert invited the audience to discover the latest advances in the three sub-themes of iA, blockchain and quantum.
1/ the iA and its role in tomorrow's industry :
- Nicolas Farrugia (Professor at IMT Atlantique) and Marc Leny (Head of R&D at Ektacom) introduced the iA theme with their work on generative artificial intelligence.
- Raphael Troncy (Assistant Professor in the Data Science Department at EURECOM), Charles Borderie (CEO of LettrIA), Grazia Cecere (Professor of Economics and Director of Research at the Institut Mines-Télécom Business School), Vincent Lefrère (Senior Lecturer at Institut Mines-Télécom Business School) and Virginie Fresse (Senior Lecturer HDR and head of the Data Engineering apprenticeship program at Télécom Saint-Étienne) explored this forward-looking topic during the first round table discussion moderated by Stéphane Jobert.
2/ blockchain for the industry of the future :
- Patrick Waelbroeck (Professor of Economics at Télécom Paris) contributed his expertise on the challenges of blockchain in the face of major societal challenges.
- Nicolas Soulié (Senior Lecturer in Digital Economics at the Institut Mines-Télécom Business School), Maximilian Schaefer (Senior Lecturer in Digital Economics at the Institut Mines-Télécom Business School) and Quentin Bramas (Senior Lecturer at Télécom Physique Strasbourg) discussed blockchain's contribution to the industry of the future during the round table discussion that followed.
3/ Quantum technologies: applications and impact on tomorrow's industry:
- Nicolas Fabre presented his research on advances in the second quantum revolution.
- For the final panel discussion, Nicolas Fabre was joined by Jérémie Guillaud (Head of Theory at Alice & Bob) and Louis-Paul Henry (Quantum Engineer at Pasqal) to enlighten the audience on this fascinating yet little-known technology.
The present: meetings around the exquisite flavours of an oriental cocktail
To continue this journey back in time, participants were then able to meet researchers from the Carnot TSN institute and other technological experts from the sector in a setting worthy of ancient Egypt, inviting them to sample the exquisite flavours of oriental sweets in the enchanting setting of the Khéops premises. A cocktail party during which industrialists from SMEs, ETIs and major groups were able to exchange ideas with experts and researchers from the laboratories of the Carnot TSN institute, with a view to initiating future collaborations, or even considering research partnerships.
The past: a virtual immersive expedition to the heart of the Khéops pyramid
After a leap into the future and a return to the present, the public was invited to embark on a final leap back in time, to 4500 BC, at the heart of the Pyramid of Cheops, the Great Pyramid of Giza. Equipped with state-of-the-art virtual reality headsets, participants were plunged for 45 minutes into the immersive world of the Egypt of the Pharaohs, in a journey combining the virtual and real worlds, to enjoy an overwhelming experience, both entertaining and educational, in a 1,000m2 space.
The Technological Horizons: iA, blockchain, quantum by Carnot TSN event took participants on a journey between past, present and future, through the latest technologies for industry in these three fields, as well as through a presentation of multiple research projects and success stories by experts from the Carnot TSN institute.
