They were able to benefit from the R&D and technology offerings of the 39 Carnots, as well as other research laboratories, universities, engineering schools and research establishments, transfer structures, Contract Research Organizations (SRC) and Technology Resource Centers (CRT).

A new partnership signed

On this occasion, a partnership was signed between the Carnot Network and the CTI network, to accelerate the transition from research to innovation
and contribute to the technological future of industry. Together, they are committed to :

  • Strengthen their links to mutually promote the originality and points of success of their models to their institutional supervisors, professional federations and industry support relays.
  • Promoting excellence in research and development conducted at their respective establishments
  • Jointly encouraging companies to dare partnership research with an Institut Carnot.

Partnerships awarded four Carnot prizes

The 2023 edition also enabled the Carnot Network to present the Carnot Partnership Research Awards, which highlight outstanding partnerships between
teams from the 39 Carnot Network institutes and companies. Four prizes were awarded by four personalities in four categories:

- Research partnership with an SME: Sylvain CAILLOL, CNRS Research Director at the Charles Gerhardt Institute (Carnot Chimie Balard Cirimat), in partnership with Sÿnia, European leader in embossed adhesive labels. Sÿnia was looking to reduce its impact on the environment, and this partnership led to the development of a polyurethane formula with over 80% renewable carbon.

- Partnership led by a young researcher: Irène GONZALEZ SALGADO, from Carnot 3BCAR's UMR 792 TBI team, for a project with NEREUS, a company specializing in ultrafast laser processes.
NEREUS, which specializes in membrane processes used in the treatment of wastewater and industrial and agricultural effluents. This project has made it possible to develop
of nitrogen fertilizers from digestate, a by-product of biogas production by methanization.

- Long-term partnership (3 years +): Laurent FULCHERI, Director of Research at the Centre PERSÉE at Mines Paris (Carnot M.I.N.E.S). After thirty years of research, this prize rewarded a long-term collaboration with the American company Monolith for the production of "turquoise" hydrogen by high-temperature pyrolysis of natural gas, a low-energy-intensity process that enables the co-production of decarbonated hydrogen and solid carbon with high added value.

- Partnership research supporting the creation of a company: Maeva DORON, from the Person-Driven Systems Laboratory of the Carnot CEA LETI, in partnership with Diabeloop, a company specializing in automated diabetes treatment, and the CERITD association, founded by diabetologists. The project involved the development of automated insulin delivery solutions for insulin-dependent people, enabling personalized diabetes management while reducing the patient's mental workload.

"The diversity of the projects rewarded by the Carnot Partnership Research Awards demonstrates the breadth of the field covered by the Carnot Network in terms of research, development and innovation. Each in its own field, these four awards illustrate the quality of the collaboration between Carnots and companies, and the concrete results achieved through these partnerships". Alexandre BOUNOUH, President of the Carnot Institutes Network.

Strate Design school, part of the Carnot TSN institute, honored

To design the trophy presented to the winners of the Carnot Partnership Research Awards, the Carnot Network called on Strate Design. The school invited students to submit twenty trophy designs, from which the winning object was chosen. Strate Design, which has campuses in Sèvres,
Lyon and Bangalore, is part of Carnot TSN. It has set up a research cluster to improve understanding of the societal issues associated with the third industrial revolution, via two research laboratories: Exalt Design Lab. and Robotics by Design Lab.

The projects of Strate Design students, who worked on the Strate x Carbone 4 partnership project, were also on display at the Carnot TSN Institute stand, in the form of panels covered with captivating photographs (see photos below).

With more than 8,000 face-to-face meetings, the 2023 edition of Rendez-vous Carnot was once again the ideal meeting place to respond to the challenges of all business sectors. This series of conferences and roundtables brought together SMEs, ETIs and major groups: a real rendez-vous with all R&D and innovation players, and a benchmark event in France for meetings between research players and companies of all sizes (37% major groups and 35% start-ups) and from all business sectors. Each year, the Rendez-vous Carnot is a true gathering of the French ecosystem of partnership research under the aegis of the Carnot Network.
